MEETINGS AND EVENTS (Updated April, 2001)

The Annual Summer Sunday Lunch and A.G.M.

Each year, since the Club was re-established in 1995, it has been the practice to hold a Sunday Luncheon, combined with a brief A.G.M., in London.

Our venue has changed each year as we try to find a location which is suitable for the majority, bearing in mind that members live at all points of the compass and we need to be close to the centre of London and reachable by Tube.

The choice of a Sunday fixture was made so that members wishing to attend from afar would be able to do so and the Lunch timing was fixed to enable members, in the main, to travel to and from in daylight. We have had as many as 227 members, together with lady guests, attending and members have been able to come along from Australia, Israel, America as well as far flung corners of the United Kingdom.

There is, however, a penalty for this, since it means that we must pay an high price for private dining facilities, but the numbers attending and the pleasure of seeing old friends once more compensates, we hope, for any disadvantage.

The details of the Lunch are posted on the Message Board and on the front of the Newsletter.

The Cricket Match

A very successful Cricket Match was arranged in 2000 where a Clove Team beat Edmonton Cricket Club on their own pitch – which is adjacent to the Old School Ground at Hydeside. It is hoped to field a team, on an annual basis for a few years yet. Details will be announced on the Message Board and in the Newsletter.

"Year" Reunions

The 1951 year maintains contact, with a nucleus meeting frequently during the year.

The 1949 year held a 50th Anniversary Reunion in 1999, organised by Stuart Lester, which was attended by Jimmy Marr, one of the original 1st Form, form masters.

Should you wish to contact members of your year, or even to organise a reunion, please contact the Secretary who will help in any way possible.

Other Reunions

We hope to organise other gatherings.

An example of one being considered is for us to gather and walk round the old Cross-Country Course at The Jubilee Retreat, Chingford.

On the website you will see reference to the Joe Brearley Project. Progress is being made in the copying to video of films of School Journeys which were made by Joe (and others). A "film night" will be a possibility for consideration when these are all gathered and annotated.
